Viva Great Britain!
The London 2012 Olympics fever has swept the nation by storm! Never before have Brits from all backgrounds, ethnicities, regions and walks of life celebrated our Team GB Olympic wins like they’ve done so over the past couple of weeks. It’s a ferocious fever that is unequivocally positive and utterly contagious.
It’s evident however fundamental improvements are needed to keep us at the top of the Olympic medals board in years to come. A rather worrying statistic highlighted last week by Lord Moynihan, chairman of the British Olympic Association, was that half of our gold-medal winners at the previous Beijing Olympics were privately school educated. Not entirely so this year however, with some of our most coveted London 2012 gold-medal winners including Jessica Ennis, Andy Murray, Bradley Wiggins, Victoria Pendleton, Greg Rutherford and Mo Farah – all having attended comprehensive or state schools in their youth, which is great news for us all. So long as we can continue to improve sports facilities in all schools and enthuse our children to take up sports, we can hold on to our winning momentum. Giving everyone a fair opportunity is after all what the Olympics is all about. We should extend this ethos to the wider society – not just within an Olympic arena.
Sports and fitness is vital for every child and key to a healthy society. Not only does it reduce stress, increase happiness and energy levels, it prevents a number of health related issues. Above all it teaches us about discipline, fair play, teamwork, handling pressures and overcoming fears – skills which can be applied in every aspect of life.
The teams at Vivastreet are proud and highly motivated sports lovers and fitness fans. It was important therefore to ensure a vibrant Sports and Fitness category on Vivastreet full of great classes to get our users pumping. From Zumba and Yoga to Tai-Chi and Taekwondo – have a dig around the site to see what’s happening in your area.
The feeling of patriotism is at an all time high with the Jubilee and now the Olympics… let’s hope our positivity and national unity is here to stay! Remember, the more united we are as a nation the harder it is to crack us… Viva Great Britain!
